Our Mission

Texas Winds Musical Outreach uplifts and engages North Texans with limited access to the arts by providing professional music performances in care and living spaces.

Our Vision

Create a world where music transforms everyday spaces into places of joy and connection, ensuring that everyone, regardless of circumstance, experiences music.

Our Values

Connection + Inclusivity

Our performances create genuine connection and make the arts accessible, personal and free for all.

Joy + Compassion

We intentionally create experiences that feel welcoming, engaging, and uplifting, even in spaces that may be heavy or clinical. We approach every interaction with empathy and kindness.

Respect + Integrity

We treat every person with dignity, professionalism, and care — on stage, behind the scenes and in the community. We honor the trust placed in us by our greater community and strive to use resources responsibly with integrity.

Our History

In 1985 Catherine Barr and members of her woodwind quintet discovered a new audience in a Dallas nursing home. The musicians’ desire to perform matched the residents’ need for human interaction. Music made a difference in the lives of players and listeners alike, nurturing their spirits and awakening the potential for sharing love and compassion in a unique setting.

Since that time, Texas Winds has expanded its outreach to all Dallas, Tarrant, Collin and Denton County nursing homes, as well as hospitals and Head Start Centers. Texas Winds gave 11 concerts in its first year.
